About
Burnbend Angus
The Stud
breeding herd at Burnbend commenced with the purchase of ptic breeding
dams from Lawson’s Angus in 2005. Since then further purchases have
been made at dispersals
(Narrangullen and ICM) and by further selection
of quality females from Lawson’s and Te Mania. In particular, in April
2006 we were able to purchase two of the fourteen donor cows offered by
Lawson’s at their annual sale.
These
high-quality females and their daughters, from some of the best AI
sires, will form the nucleus of our breeding programme, which will be
carefully maintained at approximately 35 females. Our concentration on
quality females is based on one simple belief – you can’t produce the
highest quality calves from cows which are not first-rate, no matter
which bull one uses!
Having said that, we will be searching both in Australia
and the US for outstanding bulls for AI use. As a result of a visit to
the US in 2006, we are in contact with several studs, and are receiving
the latest information on promising sires for use in Australia. |
